The Greening of Detroit is a non-profit organization focused on enhancing the quality of life for Detroiters by planting trees,  providing job training and involving our youth in the education of the natural environment. We involve Detroiters in the process through community engagement, green spaces, education and jobs. 

Our mission:

Inspiring sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, healthy living, education, training and job opportunities.

We will be using the funds raised from the Rock Family of Companies Community Challenge for:

1. Tree Plantings: Now more than ever, our community needs an environment that we can rely on to stay healthy and enjoy for recreation. Trees also keep us healthy by playing an important role in cleaning our air and protecting our water. In 30 years, we have planted over 130,000 trees, and we are not stopping! The donations from this challenge will go to support more tree plantings in Detroit as we work to restore the city's urban tree canopy. 
2. Walter Meyers Nursery: The Greening of Detroit has a tree nursery in Rouge Park! The money raised from this challenge will help to expand the Pot-in-pot section of the nursery as we look to the future of a full functioning tree nursery.
3. Workforce Development: To continue providing Adult and Youth training for Detroit residents to open up more opportunities for green career paths in the city.
4. Lafayette Greens: To support our pollinator garden and community programming in our downtown, public garden.
