ECO City Farms is a nonprofit, multicultural, intergenerational, urban teaching farm located inside the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County, MD. Our motto is: We grow great food, farms and farmers!
We work at the intersections of community development, public health, environmental restoration and food justice, through a range of programs that promote urban agriculture as a vehicle for environmental restoration, natural resource protection, healthy food access and enhanced community nutrition. We intentionally grow food where good food is scarce and where diet-related ailments are at an all time high. ECO envisions a just, vigorous and sustainable food system in the Chesapeake foodshed with ample fertile soil, quality environments, sustainable incomes for farmers and access to nutritious high quality food for all.
Our goal is to prove that urban farming is financially viable and be a model for other urban farms around the nation. The key to our success will be diversifying our clientele and to make this a reality we need to maximize our production. We need your support to help us amp up our production to increase the amount of sustainably-grown, fresh food available to our community and local food businesses.
We have already prepared the land, now we just need the right tools to make it thrive. Your support will help us to purchase:
- Seeding, harvesting and marketing equipment
- A commercial grade salad spinner
- A new irrigation system
With these supplies, we’ll significantly increase our yields and have the capacity to properly market our produce to our community. We want to shorten the supply chain to get more healthy food onto our communities’ plates, in their homes and in their restaurants.
