Many of you know that I have been a life-long lover of the sciences. While I may not have landed my childhood dream job as a Marine Biologist or Environmentalist (at least not formally), I use my science education and interest on a daily basis. I'm still that bug-collecting, science experimenting, reduce-reuse-recycle! pushing kid at heart. I'm a geek, and proud of it!
A few months ago, I discovered and quickly joined the Associates Board of the Illinois Science Council--an independent* nonprofit organization that promotes fun (and educational) events in all areas of science. Finally! A forum for me to engage with others who also like to nerd-out on science, and to help promote science programs and events to those who may be on the fence. Science for the curious, science for everyone!
Eleven years ago, the ISC founders realized that, while Chicago had great programming for arts and culture for adults and wonderful STEM programming for children, there were few ways for adults to engage in and learn about science in a fun and casual way. Illinois Science Council was launched to fill that gap. Having a solid understanding and appreciation for science is so important, even in our everyday lives. Whether you want to be a smarter consumer or more informed voter, to help your kids with homework, or to just make sense of science stories in the news, Illinois Science Council is here providing relevant and interesting science content that is accessible to anyone.
Your donation enables our year-round schedule of engaging, low-cost or free science events, like our annual Pi Day Run, "The Chemistry of" talk series, and Science Fest (see more here: http://www.illinoisscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/ISC-Programs-through-JUNE-2017.pdf). Please support ISC today!
The ISC Associates' Board aims to raise $5,000 by December 31, and I am striving to raise $200 of that. Please consider supporting my efforts to spread science!
* ISC receives no funding from the State of Illinois or City of Chicago. We rely on the generosity of donors like you.
