Edward L. James, Jr.

Transplant Type: Kidney

Edward L. James, Jr. is awaiting a new lease on life. On January 15, 2019, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and end-stage renal failure. Unfortunately, Edward is all too familiar with the effects of kidney failure as both his mother, sister, and brother also suffer from renal disease.  Doctors now say a kidney transplant is necessary.

This has been a difficult time for Edward and his wife, Cynthia, and their children and grandchildren. Before his health began to decline, Edward enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, fishing, and going on vacation with his family, but these days his activities are extremely limited. He looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to have more energy and to get his life back, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Edward’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $414,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Edward lives more than an hour from the transplant, and he will have to temporarily relocate to be near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Because of his health challenges, he can no longer work, adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Edward. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Edward James" on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
