When I was 6 years old my mom took me to a zoo to see a dolphin show. I was mesmerized by the ability of the trainers to connect with the animals. The show ended and I proclaimed, "I want to be a dolphin trainer." That "dolphin trainer" , who was actually a marine biologist, was the first professional environmental educator I remember looking up to. There had been plenty of non-professionals before that!

I wasn't a professional myself until I was 22 years old, but I have always wanted the best for our world. When I found out that there was an Environmental Education Council of Ohio, I was all in. Being part of developing professional development opportunities for Environmental Educators is the most infectious way I can think of to spread knowledge and love for our world. Inspiring one teacher to take his or her class on an outdoor adventure can inspire an entire class of kids and get them some nature time! That makes me imagine what would happen if every single educator were so inclined.

The EECO Board and the Advisory Council are committed to keep this organization secure and relevant for the best future of Ohio. That's why I wanted to be on the board as the Vice President, and also why I am asking for donations. I want to see EECO have the funds it needs to grow into a household name, so that environmental educators in Ohio know where to access the professional development opportunities that fit their needs. I want all those 6 year old kids at the zoo, or aquarium, or local nature center, to have a professional within reach who is prepared to answer questions and encourage his or her passions and imaginations . EECO supports this goal and more.
