Hi Friends & Family,
Congratulations to J-Sei for their 50 years of service to the Nikkei Senior Community in the East Bay! May is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month and we are participating in the Give in May campaign run by the Asian Pacific Fund.
This being our fourth year participating in this campaign, we are honored to be amongst an inspiring group of people who care about this wonderful organization. J-Sei provides seniors nutritional Japanese lunches, including a variety of services rich in culture, art, education, health and many available resources.
Most of us have been fortunate to venture out in the world since our last letter, however many seniors remain housebound with minimal social contact. The lunches that J-Sei provides to these seniors is essential as many rely on these meals every week. Tad, Judy’s dad, continues to enjoy these delicious homestyle meals delivered to his home, as well as Zoom Bingo games. He, Judy & Lani (Judy’s pup) are available as substitute delivery people for the El Cerrito route and Judy continues to deliver weekly with Lani. She also enjoys volunteering in the kitchen, preparing meals for delivery.
This past year J-Sei began transitioning back to pre-pandemic activities. The 50th Anniversary Gala, Flavors of Spring, (an evening of food, drinks & silent auction), Crab Feed, in house dining along with many classes reconvened this past year. J-Sei stays updated with CDC guidelines & maintains a safe environment for the staff & volunteers. We are fortunate to have access to so many programs that J-Sei has to offer. In addition to the nutrition program, they offer bi-lingual case management, a caregiver registry, friendly visitor calls, a wide range of classes, special events and maintains a residential home.
