In March, I will return to jungle living in Bocas del Toro, Panama to volunteer/teach with Give & Surf (http://giveandsurf.org/) a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit aimed at providing substantive, hands-on, real world assistance and programs to the indigenous Ngobe community. The Ngobe tribe is an impoverished, remote community surviving mainly off subsistence living without electricity, running water, clean drinking water, and bathroom facilities.
I am still an active Board Member and my goal for 2016 is to focus on funding the preschool and kindergarten programs for our new school built just last summer. My goal of $6,000 will provide school supplies and a full-time teacher to offer classes 5 days a week to preschoolers and kindergartners (instead of 3.) We need your help to make this happen!
Give & Surf has constructed and developed schools that provide: preschool and kindergarten classes, summer school, surf outreach mentorship program, after school program, Adult and Elementary School English programs, music program, and community development initiatives. Give & Surf and its supporters also sponsor the continued education of students through a sponsorship program that provides the necessary transportation and school supplies needs of students ages 13-18.
Give & Surf has a strong focus on enhancing and adding new infrastructure to the communities and have completed a number of projects since January of 2011 through the support of volunteers, partnerships, donations, and the community. Our community projects create jobs and improve the quality of life for the people we serve. From building schools and libraries to installing bathrooms, our endeavors would not happen without support from the community, supporters, and partners.
