...and we have made a lot of progess! Our fundraising reception and silent auction last month raised over $3000. The students solicited some amazing items from local businesses and organizations, including a bike from Bikes not Bombs, a one-night stay in a king suite at the Taj Hotel, an autographed baseball from the Red Sox, an airline voucher from Peru Travel, and so much more. Mille grazie to all the sponsors and donors for making it possible.

Last weekend, our travelers met all day on Saturday to finalize their itinerary. We are looking forward to touring the old town and castles of Naples,  experiencing Pompeii, day-tripping to Florence for Renaissance art, and of  immersing ourselves in all the history and culture of Rome. There is talk of pizza-making lessons, a walking tour of the ancient Jewish ghetto, hiking the Via Appia Antica, a night at the opera...stay tuned!

We are inching closer to our fundraising goal, but still need about $6000 to close the gap before we depart on April 13. We appreciate all the very generous friends who have helped us so far - and if you know people in your networks who could also lend some support, please spread the word!

A journey of the mind and spirit...and across the globe

Sapere Aude – Latin for “dare to know” – is an after-school enrichment program for 11th and 12th graders at  English High School. Each Wednesday, students participate in a humanities seminar where they read ancient myths, analyze works by Plato and Aristotle, discuss art, and reflect on their own lives and futures.

Italia or Bust 2019!

This seminar prepares the students to travel to Europe in the spring, a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them to experience for themselves the rich histories and cultures of Europe. The trip is designed to complement what they have learned in the course, and to expose them to the personal, academic, and professional opportunities of global travel. In previous years, students have visited France, Italy, Germany, Greece, and the Czech Republic.

Each trip is entirely student researched and planned. This year's team will be planning their own trip to Italy in the coming weeks and months. Watch this space for more details!

We need your help!

The cost of this trip is an estimated $2,500 per student, which includes all airfare, lodging and meals, and transportation and admission costs in the cities we will be visiting. Almost 80% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Students fundraise the entire cost as a team, so that ability to pay does not limit anyone from being able to participate.

But while they may not have the financial means to attend this trip on their own, our students are rich in talent, curiosity, and promise. Any support you can offer would be a generous investment in that promise and in their futures. All donations are tax deductible.
