The annual budget for PTA is posted on the PTA webpage at www.ensignpta.org/budget.  Each year we do a direct ask for funds in the Fall and then hold an evening event in the Spring.  It has been our goal to raise about $40K each year.   In addition to our fundraising events, we ask that families contribute via Box Tops (just download the app and scan your receipts, choose Ensign Elementary), and by identifying Ensign as your donation location for Amazon Smiles and through the Smith’s Rewards Program (see our webpage for more information). 

You may be thinking, Ensign is a public school – why should I have to give any money?  Utah is last in the country for per pupil spending – for more information go to: https://www.governing.com/gov-data/education-data/state-education-spending-per-pupil-data.html. In addition, due to the District cutting all music education for students in grades K-2, we have hired a teacher to provide music education for these students and she is actually providing instruction for grades K-4.  Second, this year the legislature allotted $600 per teacher for all classroom supplies.  Across a 185-day school year that gives teachers just $3.24 per day or for a classroom of 26 students, about 12 cents per student per day.  With that 12 cents, teachers must purchase every supply their students will need – pencils, paper, markers, erasers, books, Kleenex, disinfecting wipes, and yes, they pay for every copy they make for your students. Supplies were prepared and sent home with every student as we started remote learning. Work continues to be sent home for our students even as we work remotely. Classrooms are going to need more supplies than ever when we return to in person learning, as teachers want to have individual supplies so there are not community materials where students are all sharing the same items. We know our teachers need more and this year we are providing each teacher with an additional $400 to make sure that they can have the items they need to ensure the best education for our students.  Your donations will be required in order to keep this support going for our amazing teachers who give so much to our community. 

Thanks to the generosity of parents in the past, we had a small cushion to use to start this year.  That cushion needs to be replaced if we are to guarantee that our students can continue to experience all that an Ensign Education has come to mean.  We are grateful for the support parents have provided and are looking forward to another outstanding year. 

If giving works for your family at this time, you can support Ensign through cash, check, credit card or online contribution at this website.  There are fees associated with your online donation which you can choose to cover or have deducted from your donation.  Checks have no fees and should be made payable to "Ensign PTA"  and mailed to 775 E 12th Avenue, SLC, UT 84103.  Donations are tax deductible.
