"Growing up in the Dominican Republic I always had an affinity and compassion for animals. This could have been the result of being raised by a working mother and being left alone with the silver screen.

Not taking anything away from my mother, she is an amazing inspirational woman, but she worked all the time to give her children the best life possible, often shading us from the cruelty of the streets. So, I was often left to watch films, series and cartoons all of which had one thing in common. They all included happy tails of man and animals. If it wasn’t Old Yeller, Pete’s Dragon, Homeward Bound or Babe, it was a TV show with a dog sidekick hanging around.

Therefore, I was baffled walking around the city seeing so many lonely and what I believe, sad dogs. The sheer number impressed me. How could so many animals that can offer so much joy be lonely. I will not make this story to sour, but we all know what happens to these stray dogs on the busy traffic of Dominican Republic. But we are here for a story of hope and change.

First you must understand the culture and reality in Dominican Republic and possible most third world nations.

Dominicans have two very big faults when it comes to their dogs.

  1. They don’t like mutts. For the poorer families, which is the majority, having a purebred is a very achievable status symbol as strays are often seen for poor.
  2. The don’t like to neuter/spay dogs. This is a combination of machismo and education.

I too was consumed by these predispositions, but my passion to get these dogs of the street helped teach me that there is only one way to save these lives.

Much credit goes to my wife, who herself has a tremendous heart. In our there we helped over 23 dogs, training them, covering their bills and looking for good homes. If it was up to us, we would have help 23,000 thousand.

With each rescue we got to know our Vets more, and each time I would complain about how unfair this was and that we saw no solution in sight. This was the instant were my relationship with the wonderful Pets Breeding control blossomed. My rescue experience was nothing compared to their masterclass. They spayed and neutered thousand of dogs and cats. And where I saw a hopeless future, the saw a direct solution. Spaying and Neutering is the only to save these animals. It is a simple solution, one within reach... not in 10 or 20 years, but sooner. We only need the resources to help prevent unnecessary breeding

I have had two dogs save my life, one is my current dog who has been my best friend for the 9 years and the other was the most beautiful mutt named Kiwi. Kiwi taught what it is to live life to the fullest and love till your little heart can’t handle it anymore.

So, I hope that this little tale (no pun intended), has inspired someone to just help a little. Share, donate or like, every interaction counts."

There is an estimated 1 million stray dogs in the Dominican Republic. The need is immense and the resources very limited. We would love to raise money to help the community of María Trinidad Sánchez, made up of mostly poor and deprived people, the locals of Maria Trinidad Sanchez have shown a strong desire to learn and do things the right way.  They have been very receptive in learning about proper pet care and the benefits of spay and neutering campaigns.

During our visits we have noticed that when dogs and cats are sick or wounded these animals are abandoned at the beaches, highways, in the trash and sometimes even drowned because they cannot afford vet care. This is the case for female dogs and cats too. This is why we are planning to offer basic medical care such as wound healing, deworming, vaccination, diagnosis of diseases and additional recommendations for sterilization. Female dogs especially deserve a better life, and by spaying, vaccinating them and teaching about the proper care of puppies and whelping bitches we can get them there. With this amount we could do 100 animals in the first of our 3 visits. We need you.
