It's right there in the first sentence of our mission statement: "As advocates for animal welfare, Helping Hands Humane Society, Inc. provides sanctuary for animals in need of compassionate care and protection." Providing compassionate care is part of every day here at Helping Hands Humane Society; from our Admission Counselors who speak calmly and gently to scared animals entering the building to the medical and behavior staff whose expertise in animal handling and reading body language allow them to provide the best possible care to our animal care team who say hello and give attention to shelter pets during their routine cleaning, feeding, and watering to Adoption Counselors who work to learn each individual's personality and what family would be the best fit for them to our amazing volunteers who donate their time to give cats, dogs, and pocket pets the love and attention they so crave and deserve, each member of our team plays a vital role in fulfilling "compassionate care."
Giving Tuesday is a time to give back to causes you care about; your donations support the compassionate care lost, abandoned, and homeless animals in our Topeka and Shawnee County community receive at our open admission animal shelter every single day of the year. Our team has been here every day providing essential care through the roller coaster of 2020 and the difficulties of 2021. Fosters have continued to open their homes to litters of neonatal orphaned puppies and kittens, injured animals in recovery, under-socialized pets who need time to learn what it means to be part of a family, etc. Volunteers show up regularly to help us clean kennels, provide enrichment, and get animals out for that very important human contact as they wait for forever families. Employees arrive at work day after day - sometimes it is emotionally and physically difficult, but knowing we are making a difference in the lives of animals keeps us coming back. At the very least, we know we are giving compassionate care, a kind touch, a loving word, to animals in stress who need all the help they can get.
If you would like to be part of that compassionate care, consider making a donation to our cause. Together, your dollars help provide a safe and comforting place of protection for these vulnerable animals. You could be funding a life-saving vaccination, the warmth that is so much better than living out in the cold, the litter that is helping a kitty practice living a spoiled life as an indoor cat. Caring for hundreds of animals each day takes a lot of supplies, and we could not do it without you!
Beyond the everyday care, we have bigger dreams for the future to help us up our compassionate care game. When our Spay/Neuter Clinic is ready to open, it will include isolation rooms for contagious diseases and illnesses such as parvo, which many know can be deadly in puppies, and ringworm, which can be so easily spread in a shelter environment. Once these rooms and the special isolation kennels they will contain are functional, it will give us the ability to treat more contagious illness in a safer way than we ever could before. Not only will those sick animals receive high quality treatment, we will be able to confidently contain the spread, protecting the hundreds of other souls in our care. These are the kinds of projects your steady support has allowed us to envision and make a reality! Thank you for believing in us, and we hope you will continue to stand strong with us and our mission of compassionate care this Giving Tuesday.
