Update on Shira and Amichai 7th April 2019

Update posted 5 years ago

It's now been  nearly 4 months since the terror attack. Shira and Amichai have been through a harrowing trauma. Shira was mortally wounded but, thank G-d her life was saved and she is now in day rehab after being released from hospital over a month ago. She has had some relapses and has been hospitalized for a number of days with infections, adhesions and other problems. She never complains and tries to be strong. Amichai was wounded in his leg suffering 3 bullet shots. He is also in day rehab and making good progress. Both of them have still a long way to go in their recovery process. The loss of their first baby from this terror attack, Amiad Yisrael HY"D was very traumatic and tragic. He was birthed in an emergency C-section and died after 3 days due to the lack of blood and oxygen from the aftermath of the attack. The terrorist driver of the vehicle, Salach Bargouti was eliminated a few days after the attack by the IDF. His brother, Assem Bargouti, who a few days later murdered 2 soldiers and wounded others at Givat Assaf was apprehended a month later and is now standing trial for 3 murders. We hope he never leaves jail alive. We wish Shira and Amichai a complete recovery and continue to pray for their well-being.

(DISCLAIMER: THIS CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN IS BEING CONDUCTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE ISH-RAN FAMILY, NOT BY CENTRAL FUND OF ISRAEL.

***100% of the funds raised here will go to supporting Shira and Amichai Ish-Ran following the tragic loss of their baby in a terror attack outside Ofra on the last night of Hanukkah.***

On December 8, 7 month-pregnant Shira Ish-Ran and her husband Amichai were standing at a bus stop outside of Ofra, on their way  home to Elon Moreh when a car filled with terrorists pulled up and sprayed the newlyweds and other commuters with bullets, critically injuring Shira and seriously injuring Amichai.

Shira underwent an emergency C-section as doctors fought to save her life and that of her unborn baby. Amichai underwent emergency surgery on his leg, which was riddled with three bullets.

Doctors were uncertain whether Shira would survive, but she miraculously revived. To the couple’s great sorrow, their firstborn son was deprived of oxygen during his mother’s life-threatening ordeal, and died as a result of the murderous attack, at 3 days old. He received a ceremonial circumcision and was named Amiad Yisrael (My eternal nation Israel), and was laid to rest in the ancient Mount of Olives cemetery in Jerusalem. Tragically,  his parents’ severe injuries prevented them from attending their own son’s funeral.

Aside from dealing with the profoundly life-altering experiences they have undergone as a result of the terror attack, Shira and Amichai now have additional needs, including transportation and numerous therapies. Costs are expected to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

We want to express our sincere gratitude for the moral and material support.  It means a lot to us. It strengthens us and gives us the strength to strengthen others.  Am Yisrael Chai! Thank you and tizku lemitzvot!”
