What is most rewarding about my work with Truth in Recruitment is listening to youth and to veterans talk about their experiences. Their stories have formed the foundation of our message to provide students and families with resources that can help them understand the stakes of military careers and how to protect their confidential information.

Truth in Recruitment’s goal is to work with students, families, teachers, veterans, community organizations, and school districts to clarify the consequences of military careers, to provide balanced information so that students can make educated choices about their future, to inform families of their children’s privacy rights, and to advocate for school district policies regulating recruiter presence on campuses.

Funding to maintain TIR staff and to build our steering committee will support our long-term effort to develop a coalition of students, parents, veterans, teachers, and social justice organizations. To support these goals, we are meeting with school board members, the district superintendent, coalition partners, and a national network of peace activists strategizing counter recruitment methods in schools.
