A Ventura county couple, who have dedicated their lives to public service, have been diagnosed with cancer within five months of their diagnosis.

Leonard Salinas, a Senior Deputy Probation Officer, has been employed by the County of Ventura for more than 30 years.  His wife, Maria Marquez, has worked for the U.S. federal government for 22 years.

Their journey began when Maria was diagnosed with Graves disease and Thyroid Eye Disease in 2017.   In May 2022, doctors informed Maria that she has an aggressive form of thyroid cancer on her thyroid tissue.   She is currently undergoing treatment.

Five months later, in October 2022, her husband Leonard was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.   A non-smoker, he visited the emergency room for a persistent cough.  Three days later,  Leonard received bad news that the cancerous cells have spread.  Leonard commenced treatment in the intensive care unit.

Leonard and Maria are Southern California natives and loving individuals who have resided in Ventura County for more than 20 years.   If you are so inclined, please support these wonderful people.  Funds will be used how unexpected medical costs not covered by insurance.
