After college I worked on foster youth advocacy issues through the United Way and had a window to the many challenges that foster youth face.  In my work, I worked with a number of San Francisco foster youth organizations and was most impressed by what SFCASA was doing with San Francisco foster youth.  I was so impressed that I went through their 40 hour training program and became a CASA myself.

So many foster youth do not have any permanence in their lives...no consistent housing, family, or people in their lives.  SFCASA gives youth a permanent connection.  Although CASAs are only committed to an 18 month relationship with their youth, many continue on for many years, supporting and becoming a permanent part of the foster youth's community as they grow up and become adults.  We all need permanent connections for success.  To know that you have one person to call when you need help, advice, or just someone familiar is crucial to success in life.  CASA gives our youth this connection.

SFCASA is a nonprofit that works to match trained volunteers with foster children and youth. These volunteers work to address each individual’s needs in the court and the community. Please read more about SFCASA on their website. I'd love for you to donate here and/or sign up for a volunteer information session! SFCASA has become a major part of my life. https://www.sfcasa.org/info/
