400 students, teachers, and one building makes a SCHOOL!
Teachers and staff are ready, students are itching to start in September. All we need is to reinvent the tired building (former school that is getting a new life) on the outskirts of Aleppo and support the efforts to educate and lead by example there!
We have 300 elementary and middle school children and 100 high schoolers. Classes will be taught in two sessions and everyone is eager to start! Students are internally displaced from different areas in Syria and many have been out of school for a few years.
School is located 16 km outside of Aleppo in a small town of usually 7,000 inhabitants, now welcoming 5,000 internally displaced people (most children) in addition to their own residents. Our Aleppo NuDay School will fill an urgent need for these children and orphans who no longer are content with standing by and letting their lives pass by. They are craving to learn and to distract themselves with something other than the crisis around them. The area is quiet and stable so safety is not a concern.
This project will renovate the school building, spruce it up with paint, get a generator and electricity going, ensure teachers and staff get paid for two months, provide books and basic supplies. Very little is really needed to ensure these children get an education!
