Support grassroots tenant organizing in Brooklyn - support Flatbush Tenant Coalition! 2023 has been a challenging year. For FTC, it has also been a year of precedent-setting organizing and court victories that are changing the tenant organizing landscape in New York City. Over the last year, we:

  • Organized Flatbush tenants to use our recently created revolving fund and a (previously) little-known “Rent Impairing Violations” law to win precedent-setting eviction cases, with legal representation by our amazing partners at Brooklyn Legal Services - TRC.  With these cases, our tenant leaders bring real consequences for landlords who fail to fix long-term, extremely hazardous housing code violations by establishing that tenants living in such conditions do not owe any rent. These victories not only force unscrupulous landlords to finally make repairs for individual families -- they are also a powerful organizing tool in our fight to ensure that housing court and the city's housing agencies enforce the housing maintenance code for all New Yorkers.
  • Launched our housing court solidarity actions, with dozens of FTC tenant leaders standing shoulder to shoulder with fellow tenants during their court dates, providing moral support and highly visible solidarity that demands accountability and due process in housing court
  • Educated more than 11,000 tenants on their rights and available resources through tenant association workshops; monthly coalition meetings; Know Your Rights presentations; street & housing court outreach; and door-knocking in buildings
  • Supported over 30 tenant associations to organize & win rent reductions, coordinate rent strikes, and obtain thousands of repairs
  • Connected over 3,500 tenants to legal, immigration, rent support and other services and resources

Help us keep the momentum & build a strong tenant movement in 2024!
