Van donated by Franz Bakery!

Update posted 7 years ago

😂 We are excited and grateful to announce that Franz Bakery has donated a Freight Liner step van with 17-ft cargo area---just perfect for our new Mobile Salon. Their Fleet Manager, Tom Moreno, carefully selected a van from their fleet and cleaned it up for us. They removed all the bread racks and touched up the outside paint. It's white and clean and looks just like the van Darrell sketched for our video! Thank you to Franz Bakery!

Now our task is to convert the van to a Mobile Salon. For that we need your ongoing support! Thank you!

A well-groomed appearance has a profound effect on how people feel about themselves, how they are treated by others, and whether they are motivated to seek employment or go to school, or even to be seen in public.

A formerly homeless client stated, "We can't even go for a job if we're all shaggy and just not up to par. Most places would turn us away just on looks. Hands of Favor, donating their time at Friends of the Carpenter every month, has a big impact, and we can get cleaned up and be ready for a job interview or a housing interview or school."

Impacting the Community
Our efforts to reach as many of these people as possible on a consistent basis is important to the whole community. We have many professional stylists who volunteer their time for our clients at over 130 events each year.

We partner with over 20 different organizations, including Goodwill, Salvation Army, Compassion Connect, Clark County Council for the Homeless, The Clark Transition Projects, and others.

In 2016, we provided over 2,200 hair cuts and styling services—twice as many as two years ago—to needy people, many of whom have used this small but important service to jump start their lives.  To keep growing, to keep up with the need, to help even more people, we need a large van to use as a mobile salon.

You can see the shine on their faces that a nice cut and kind hands can bring.”—Amy Bean, Rahab's Sisters

Our mission is to build confidence and motivate clients to  become positive, productive citizens of their respective communities.

About Hands of Favor

Derek and Regina Thompson launched Hands of Favor as a nonprofit  in late 2013. Derek is a professional hair stylist who decided to serve the under-served when he retired. "I've been hooked on the happy faces ever since! We build relationships, listen to people, find out what they need, and repair lives as best we can. It's like our slogan, Restore, Renew, Motivate.

"We serve God one haircut at a time."
