This year our ladies need you more than ever!
Meet Nicole "Nicky" Herranz! Nicky graduated from Cross Keys high school in May 2019 and she still attends our workshops.
Nicky is a 20-year-old junior at Agnes Scott College and she's having a hard time accepting herself and narrowing down her options for work once she graduates. She sometimes feels lost and unsure of herself. Nicky needs to know her community is rooting for her!
Because of generous donors, the weekly workshops provided by Athena's Warehouse offer Nicky the tools she needs to carve out her own pathway to success.
All of our program participants receive weekly career prep coaching and can access free group therapy sessions with a certified therapist but the need for more funds to provide free therapy with a certified therapist remains.
We know our participants are still facing major uncertainty related to the pandemic and we need to be ready!
Your gift today will ensure young ladies like Nicky get the emotional stability they need in spite of the pandemic.
Through the generous support of donors, we can continue to provide weekly college/career prep workshops, free group therapy, free yoga from a trauma-informed yoga instructor, 5 $1000.00 scholarships, and various micro-scholarships to cover application fees for girls in Dekalb county, GA.
That’s why we're asking you today: will you make a gift of $50.00 today so that Nicky can continue to get the emotional support she needs?
Can she count on your support today?
In her 2019 essay, she wrote, “The meetings I’ve attended at Athena’s Warehouse have significantly improved my overall mental stability and have done way more than I ever expected. I’m very grateful for the safe place that Athena’s Warehouse has provided and for discussing important topics like teen health, dating, relationships, domestic violence, racism, equality, and body image with me. I’m also very glad that it introduced me to yoga which I practice at home every other day for thirty minutes. Most of all, I am so grateful to Bee because she’s truly the one who changed my way of looking at life forever.
I won’t forget how Bee stood up in front of all of us and told her story, the story of how she struggled to please her parents who always seemed to never care because they were so traumatized by their past. Hearing and seeing Bee talk about her struggle was like looking into a mirror, we weren’t the same but our struggle was. I felt so captivated by her words and I honestly cried a little, because I thought I was the only one. I could see that even to this day, it hurts her, and seeing her pain made me feel connected to her. It was through Bee’s story that I realized my life shouldn’t revolve around pleasing other people. It should be about doing what makes ME happy.”
Nicky uses she/they pronouns and describes herself as "I am a Political Science and History double major with a Human Rights minor at Agnes Scott College. She currently works part-time for Athena’s Warehouse as their Outreach Coordinator and for Agnes Scott College’s Communications & Marketing Department as a Student Worker.
I am a trilingual 20-year-old Honduran-Brazilian who is passionate about politics, social justice, and human rights including LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and immigration rights."
Currently, in their junior year at Agnes Scott College, Nicky aspires to give back to the community in any way that they can. They often host fundraisers on their social media for individuals in need. Nicky is not the type of person to be silent in the face of injustice and is getting the knowledge to back up her passions. She's extremely involved at Agnes Scott as a Committee Chair and member of various organizations:
- Programming Board- Entertainment Chair
- Latinas Unidas- Party Committee Member
- Scotties for Change- Member
- Affinity- Member
- ASC Fair Fight U- Member
- Model United Nations- Member

Nicky continues to attend our Discover Your Inner Warrior workshops and before joining the team in 2021 she became our 2nd "Continuing Education" Scholarship recipient in 2020. This scholarship is for young women who are currently in college, who show financial need, and have good attendance at our workshops.
Since our workshops are hybrid, this allows for college students like Nicky to join the workshops virtually and for them to act as peer educators or more relatable role models to the high school students. They can answer questions about the ever-changing collegiate application process and even offer practical advice about how colleges are handling COVID-19 protocols.
We hope Nicky will be a permanent member of our team when she graduates from college and to ensure this we need your help. Help to fully fund our programs or donate to the General Fund to ensure we have everything we need to keep Nicky on board.
