Ascension Lutheran Faith Camp & Retreats

At Ascension, we value our children and youth, and we also realize the importance of strong community connections. One way we show this is through our annual summer program called Faith Camp. On the surface, Faith Camp looks like the typical, ordinary day camp program you might find anywhere else. But it’s so much more than that. In fact, at Ascension, we think our camp is extraordinary, and here’s why.

For one week in the summer, children who are preparing to enter kindergarten – sixth grade gather at Captain Butler’s, the church’s property on the shores of Richardson Creek. In small groups based on age, children learn songs, which all come together as a short musical at the end of the week. They work as teams during arts and crafts to design the set and the props. They gather on the dock for short devotions twice a day. Toss in some kayaking, swimming, a huge inflatable water slide, and some outdoor games, and you have plenty of time for laughter and fun. The most important pieces, though, are teamwork and relationship building. The children work together, make new friends they will see at school, and hear again and again that God loves them … no matter what.

It’s not just the children who benefit. Middle and High School youth serve as counselors and helpers, honing their leadership skills. Adults of all ages are present to lead activities, share encouraging words and smiles, and contribute their gifts and talents. Though we might end each day tired and sweaty, everyone can’t wait to come back the next day, enjoy activities, and marvel at God’s amazing creation.

Best of all, the day camp is free. We even provide lunch, snacks, and refillable water bottles. Faith Camp is Ascension’s gift to the church and the community. Because we love it so much, we continue to vision and dream ways to expand it, so that children, youth, and adults learn again and again that God loves them … no matter what!
