Jteen Philanthropy is a leadership program where a group of teenagers allocate significant amounts of grant money to nonprofit organizations dedicated to bettering the community. In past years, we have given money to impactful organizations making change in areas such as poverty and homelessness, healthcare and hospital life, and domestic violence. This year, our three focus areas are: education equality, connection to Israel, and civic engagement.
My participation in Jteen over the past three years has not only taught me the importance of teamwork, philanthropy, and consensus, but has shown me firsthand the large scale impact a small group of teenagers can make on their community. Jteen has also opened me up to engaging in public service in other ways and has inspired me to continue practicing philanthropy once I graduate. Our collective goal of raising $5,000 allows us to practice the act of tikkun olam, repairing the world, right in our own community.
