It was WORMS!
UPDATE 10.18.2021--It turns out, we were wrong. Gabriele didn't have the parvovirus. She had WORMS!
Gabriele had a false positive on the parvovirus test, which can happen when there are an abundance of parasites skewing the results. And unfortunately for Gabriele, that was exactly the case. She was full of worms!
The worms were so bad, and Gabriele was so painfully small, that she was hospitalized for several days so she could be treated and her condition assessed.
The worms did a number of Gabriele. She's far behind her littermates in terms of size. She's small and weak, but getting stronger by the day now that her worms have been treated. She still has quite the road ahead of her. We have to continue providing care and support to ensure she catches up with the rest of her litter. But with your help, she'll be right where she needs to be in no time!
Gabriele has contracted the deadly parvovirus!
PARVO KILLS PUPPIES! Her only chance is to see a veterinarian immediately, to receive supportive care while her body does its best to fight off the virus.
Gabriele is just four weeks old. She should be learning to walk! She should be discovering play and all that it is to be a pup. Instead, Gabriele is barely strong enough to open her eyes. Her tiny body is too fragile, too exhausted to play. She isn't eating. She's fading fast.
She has a fight in front of her. Parvo is a terrifying diagnosis. But with your help, we will be there every step of the way to give her every chance at a full life.
