EDIT (2/2):  Sweet Sally has had a very rough month! First, she ended up at a very crowded shelter and was completely out of time. Thankfully, we stepped in and rescued her. She was adopted shortly after that. Unfortunately, in her new home, it became clear that Sally was 'leaking' urine. Sally was then returned to the rescue and we have been trying to get Sally better ever since!

We took her to the vet immediately where full diagnostics needed to be run (xray, ultrasound, bloodwork, urinalysis). We found out that Sally has abnormally small kidneys and may have a condition called an ectopic ureter. That means her "piping" is not attached correctly, which is causing her to leak.

Sally is SUCH a young girl with the opportunity to have so much life ahead of her - she’s only 2 years old! We want to give her the best chance at life, but the surgery she needs to fix this is $3,000! That, combined with the initial $1000+ in diagnostics is a daunting and unexpected expense. If Sally does not get ongoing care, she will not survive. Her kidney values are already off the charts and while we have started her on special food (which is also expensive!), the food alone is not enough to make a difference.

Homeward Trails has been SLAMMED with unexpected medical expenses in the last few weeks, which lately has been totaling a few thousand dollars for each medical issue. It’s gotten so bad that it’s starting to impact other lives that we could help because we are unfortunately turning away dogs in shelters. We can’t afford to risk more medical needs because money is SO tight. Please, help us get this surgery covered so we can save Sally right now and save other dogs in need down the line.

We thank you so very much.

Original post (1/27): Sally is a very sweet girl who came to us with a urinary problem that we are trying to figure out how to fix. She has already had a number of diagnostics - X-ray, blood work, and ultrasound. Unfortunately, those all add up quickly. The vets are leaning towards diagnosing an issue with her kidneys. These kinds of issues are always hard to diagnose because they're not easy to see with the blind eye. Please help us replenish our emergency funds and get Sally the answers she deserves!
