The Upper Mississippi River National Wildife and Fish Refuge has been a haven for fish, wildlife and people since 1924. This refuge stretches 260 river miles from Wabasha, MN to Princeton, IA and protects 240,000 acres of the Mississippi River floodplain. We are located on the southern portion of ther refuge between Savanna, IL and Thomson, IL. The "Upper Miss"is a home to many species of wildlife, such as bald eagles, american white pelican, trumpetor swans, sandhill cranes, river otter, ornate box turtles, paddlefish, freshwater mussels and many other species.  Visitors can experience the natural wonders of the refuge by canoeing the backwaters, taking a walk or bicycle the trails that traverse through the prairie, take your child fishing and even capture those special moment through the eye of the lens.

Help us connect these resourses to students and visitors by getting involved.
