The photo here is perhaps one of the most disturbing things I have seen in my 20 years of working against the death penalty. I took it outside of death row in Georgia at the very moment that a young woman found out the state was moving forward with the execution of her father in a matter of minutes. Hugged by one of her dad's attorneys, she is hysterically SCREAMING, "Daddy!" over, and over, and over.
This insanity has to stop.
In 2017, I co-founded Death Penalty Action, a small non-profit organization, in order to provide high visibility resources, leadership, support -- as well as plan educational and direct action events and activities -- within the broader death penalty abolition movement.
This second year of operating has been a big one. We were directly involved in critical work in Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee, New Hampshire, Washington DC, Texas, Indiana, and more. We have been in the middle of some amazing victories, and also some heartbreaking defeats.
My co-director and I are two passion-driven individuals trying to make a difference in the world by using our time and energy to stop executions from continuing. I have committed to raising $10,000 in the coming weeks in order to cover our mounting expenses from this extraordinary work in 2019, and to compensate ourselves for the sweat and tears that we have put into it all. We receive no grants or have regular funding other than what we peice together from friends and supporters like you.
Can I count on you to make sure Death Penalty Action continues down the road ahead in 2020?
