In an increasingly divided world, #GivingTuesday represents a new global heritage of reciprocity. In Hopi culture, our youth are one of the most important populations for the tribe. With the changing times, the Hopi Opportunity Youth Initiative works to provide opportunities to youth ages 14 to 26 in the pathways
of service learning, mentoring, cultural wellbeing and data. Every act of generosity counts and means even more when we give as a community. Everyone has something to give, whether its time, expertise or monetary donations large or small; together we can continue the Hopi Heritage of Reciprocity.

How do HOYI’s pathways fit into #GivingTuesday? Each pathway was created by youth, for youth in order to help all Hopi and Tewa youth transcend into their journey to success.

Naanasunga, a mentoring pathway to join Hopi and Tewa youth and credentialed adults together to help improve the career, cultural and educational attainment of the communities' youth.

Hita’nangwa, a service-learning pathway that incentivizes and aligns Hopi and Tewa post-secondary graduates to return home to work and/or complete a local service project within their interests and/or skill sets. This includes supporting programs that are currently doing this work and employing youth with credentials through hands-on contextualized training, purpose-driven vocational exploration and affirm a community founded public service.

Tuwi, a cultural wellbeing pathway to boost the cultural identity of Hopi and Tewa youth, ensuring that they are confident in who they are and where they come from while pursuing their idea of success.

Data, a pathway intertwined throughout all of the work HOYI does. HOYI works with community partners to measurably improve the education, career and cultural standing over time by collecting new or existing data to help guide long-term strategy and pathway development.

#GivingTuesday isn’t just about fundraising, it’s about communities coming together and giving their time, power, skills, expertise, and resources. It’s about the Heritage of Reciprocity that brings change to our communities!
