Last summer, I traveled to Haiti and stayed at Maison Fortune Orphanage with 5 other girls from my school. We fell in love with it! We spent hours on end talking and playing with the kids and by the end of our trip we were definitely not ready to leave. While at the orphanage, we stayed in the guest house on the boys' campus, and therefore spent a good amount of our time with the boys. We did, however, spend a couple days at the girls' campus, too. The girls were amazing - they jumped at the opportunity to put our hair up in various updos, they taught us upbeat songs and hand-clapping games, and they posed beautifully while they snapped picture after picture of each other. They did all of this with smiles on their faces and spreading contagious giggles. Seeing these girls and their beautiful smiles left us all with smiles of our own; but we were heartbroken with the material differences between the girls' and boys' campuses. With improvements to the girls' campus such as solar power, better security, and plumbing, the girls' campus may be able to house guests who could in turn, leave donations and interact with the girls as they do on the boys campus. These girls deserve our attention - I encourage you to give so that the girls' campus can be just as wonderful as the boys' and to show these girls how incredibly strong and important they are!
