Centro Cultural Guanín, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization located in La Piedra, Dominican Republic, aims to help young people to discover, develop, and achieve their full potential as adults, citizens, and leaders.

Since our founding in 2001 by Elias Severino, we have collaborated with a network of coordinators in the United States, Canada, and Germany to provide community development opportunities, along with educational, cultural, and social experiences for our young people and their families.

Our primary goal is to cultivate a community of leaders and role models for generations to come. Children are engaged in activities that challenge and enrich their minds, bodies, and spirits, while also nurturing their self-esteem. Guanin’s safe and caring environment has enabled many young 

Dominicans to play, learn, and develop valuable skills for life. In the Dominican Republic, basketball is the second most popular sport behind baseball. In La Piedra, meaning “The Rock,” children often risk their safety for the love of the game. They’re often playing on rugged, gravel courts without access to proper footwear. 

For this reason, we would like to build a FlexCourt multi game basketball court that will not only provide a safe and healthy means for play, but will also be durable enough to withstand time and inclement weather. The two pictures above show our goal vs the current reality. Without access to athletic facilities, this basketball court, along with the future development of a playground, might be the only way for many children to properly exercise. As studies have shown, exercise not only strengthens the body but also stimulates the brain. We aim to have well-rounded students and community members in La Piedra, and we believe this is the next step in helping them to achieve their full potential.Please consider making a donation to help make our dream a reality.
