2019 END OF YEAR UPDATE!

Update posted 4 years ago

We cannot thank all of our sponsors and donors enough! We are so very grateful for your continued support. As 2019 draws to a close, we are happy to say that the Miller and Habte families have spent a year in their new homes in Grand Terrace!

And as 2020 approaches, we are in full planning mode for three homes in the city of San Bernardino on the corner of 9th and H Streets.  We have offered two Orientation Classes for prospective homebuyers and the application process is currently open! We will soon be selecting families that will call these houses their forever homes. For more information contact our Family Services Manager, Judi Dennistoun, at jdennistoun@habitatsb.org or 909-478-1176, ext. 302.

It takes time, sweat, money and volunteers to make all of this happen.  You can help by making a monetary donation here on this site and you can also contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Loreta Erickson, to find out how you can be involved in the San Bernardino Builds.  Her contact info is: lerickson@habitatsb.org and 909-478-1176, ext. 301.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

TWO DESERVING FAMILIES WILL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!

THE HABTE FAMILY

Alganesh Habte currently lives in Colton under the Housing Authority of San Bernardino, with her  grandson, granddaughter and daughter. The home she lives in is very old, small, and in poor living condition.  Alganesh first heard about Habitat in 2003, when five of her children were still living with her. She put in an application for Habitat that same year and was selected as a future homeowner. After being selected, she waited six years for a home and completed all her sweat equity hours.  She later learned her dream of becoming a homeowner was denied, due to change of income. By this time, most of her children had grown into adults and moved out on their own. Alganesh never gave up; she kept her faith in God and continued to pray.  With the help of her family and lots of prayers, the income she needed in order to be a homeowner was enough to reapply with Habitat for Humanity.  After waiting fifteen long years, her dream of becoming a homeowner has finally come true. She is very thankful and will be able to raise her small grandchildren in a new home and in a safe community.

THE MILLER FAMILY

Amanda Miller currently lives in Colton in a rental home. She has four children living in the home with her. Their current rental home has experienced many problems: such as electrical, roofing, and flooring issues, plus several broken windows. Amanda is legally blind and is excited to become a homeowner at our Grand Terrace build because it is conveniently located near public transportation, grocery shopping, schools and so much more. Amanda first heard about Habitat for Humanity through her cousin in Utah, who became a Habitat homeowner a few years ago. Amanda longs to provide her children with a safe, stable place to live and play. They have faithfully completed their sweat equity hours and are ready to make this house their “forever” home.

Habitat for Humanity San Bernardino Area will be building three new homes in the city of San Bernardino in 2019.  Won't you consider partnering with us by making a donation today?
