Harriett Crisenbery

Transplant Type: Kidney

Harriett Crisenbery is awaiting a new lease on life. Six years ago, she fractured her hip and ended up in the hospital. While she was there, she learned that her kidneys were failing. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as she was unaware there was an issue. Her kidney function has steadily declined since then, and she now faces end-stage kidney disease. Harriett has been on dialysis for the past year, which leaves her tired and takes a toll on her quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical. Thankfully, someone from her church came forward and offered one of his kidneys to save her life. He is a match, and the surgery is scheduled for early March.

During this difficult time, Harriett is thankful for the love and support of her husband of 47 years, Henry, and their family and friends. She has two grown children, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Harriett’s illness prevents her from traveling to visit them as much as she would like. She looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free her from dialysis and allow her to return to the activities she enjoys, like volunteering, cooking for friends and family, going camping, swimming, and using her spa to help relieve her back pain. Harriett wants nothing more than to feel better so she can attend church regularly again and spend more time with her family. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Harriett still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Harriet lives nearly three hours away from her transplant center, and must travel back and forth for appointments. When she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Harriett. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Michigan Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Harriett Crisenbery” on the memo line.
