March 2017:
Healthy Beginnings starts.
We are excited to look back on how, a year ago, we were embarking on a journey to help survivors of human trafficking by providing food resources. We wanted to support them in the process of healing and social reintegration so much!
We knew how hard it is for a victim to escape from exploitation and all that it entails; only 1-2% of victims in Europe are ever identified. Every time someone manages to free themselves from the influence of the abusers, it’s nothing short of a miracle, and a great joy.
But how many of us know that very often this is not the end of the story. Simple things for us can be life trials for them. Finding a job, keeping a steady daytime schedule, managing a budget, or abstaining from extravagant spendings are major challenges for a survivor. They have to learn to adapt to a completely new world with its completely new laws, different from the ones he has been used to. The healing process is painful and requires a strong will. That's why many survivors quit before achieving a sense of autonomy.
We saw this need and we thought we should get involved and make a difference in their lives. We wanted to help our partner shelter that worked with survivors to get rid of some of the financial hardships and help them focus on overcoming trauma. This is how the idea of ‘Healthy Beginnings’ came about. The idea grew unexpectedly, new partners and donors wanted to help.
The project was a success! With the support of 10 donors, 1800 kg of organic vegetables were donated.
Moreover, for every donated basket, 50% of the amount returned as a donation from Ferma Bauer towards prevention activities, to protect others from getting into exploitation. ( Results: 39 multipliers trained, 5822 youth informed, 6000 resources distributed).
March 2018:
Healthy Beginnings continues...
We believe that every person deserves everything that life has to offer: love, freedom, respect… these should never be sacrificed in order to be able to secure food on the table.
With your help, we want to continue providing vegetable baskets to human trafficking survivors. $100 will give veggies for a whole month to a survivor, while prevention efforts will also be supported. We are looking for 20 people to give this amount monthly for the next 6 months.
Help us provide them with a fresh start, marked by healthy new choices!
