Helen Horne

Transplant Type: Kidney

Helen Horne has a new lease on life. In 2016, her kidney function began to decrease, and she was diagnosed with kidney failure. She’s been on dialysis since then, which has left her tired and taken a toll on her quality of life. Doctors said a kidney transplant was critical. Thankfully, Helen received a transplant on May 17, 2020!

During this difficult time, Helen is grateful for the love and support of her husband, Tommy, and their family and friends, including her children and grandchildren. Her family has worried a lot about her health, and Helen has been unable to be the active wife, mother, and grandmother she longed to be. Helen looks forward to recovering from her transplant so she can resume the activities she once enjoyed, like jogging, working out, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is thrilled to be free from dialysis and excited about the future. Once she recovers, she looks forward to having more quality time with her family and being more active in her community. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Helen still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Helen’s declining health forced her to stop working, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Helen. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Helen Horne” in the memo line.
