Discharged!
11.01.2021--Great news! Puppy Max was discharged from the hospital. He turned a very positive corner, and was allowed to go home to continue his recovery with his new forever family by his side.
This is truly wonderful. So many puppies succumb to the deadly effects of parvo. We're grateful that Max had access to the care and support he needed, when he needed it most. He wouldn't be alive today without it!
PUPPY WITH PARVO! It was supposed to be the happiest of days--puppy Max was adopted! He had just gone home with his new family when he started throwing up and having diarrhea. Poor Max was clearly in distress, and our new adopters rushed him to the vet. Just in time too, as it turns out that Max has parvovirus!
Parvo is highly contagious. It's likely that Max picked it up before he came into our care. He was adopted so quickly, that the virus only began to rear it's ugly head as he was leaving our care.
More critically, parvo can be deadly. Puppies can easily succumb to their symptoms without quick intervention. Fortunately, Max's family acted fast.
Max is now on a feeding tube. He's receiving IV fluids and he hasn't had any more bouts of vomiting or diarrhea since arriving at the vet. But he's not out of the woods. He is going to have to fight to make it through this ordeal. There are no treatments for parvo. The best anyone can do is provide Max with supportive care to treat his symptoms, and hope his little body and immune system can do the rest.
We want Max to have a full and happy life in his new home. He's so close to getting everything he deserves--with your help, we can make sure he is well again soon!
