Hello there ... it's been a wonderful and difficult week all wrapped into one.  This is life though right?  Trying to make today a positive one with a last push to help COJ to the top of the leader board.  Anything you can do will help with providing continued grief support to children, teens and families all throughout the greater Cincinnati region.  Thank you ALL!  We so appreciate your support.  Love to each of you, Jeanne

How Companions on a Journey (COJ) Helped Us.....

Many of you may know, it was just over two years ago that our nephew Dillon died so unexpectedly.  His loss for me was difficult in so many ways, especially that he had his partner, parents, & siblings grieving his death ~ how could I grieve as 'just his aunt'? What could I do to support them?  And my own family - his cousins?  COJ helped.

A lot.

What you may NOT know, is that our first introduction to COJ was during our middle son Michael's sophomore year of high school when he lost a dear friend to suicide. Thankfully, COJ was present at his high school to provide crisis support and ongoing grief group support for him and many classmates.  He learned so much and it was clear to me that there was a lot to be learned about "healthy grief".

Fast forward several years, and it's incredible how much I have learned and tried to share with my family.  Knowing we will each experience grief throughout our lives, and always uniquely, makes it even more important to me to learn and share.  Just as each member of our family is from the same gene pool (at least the kids!), and raised in the same environment, we are each our own person.  Learning that there is no "one way" or "right way" to grieve is invaluable.

Often we get hung up on "what should or shouldn't I say"?  There is so much to learn about grief.  Even little 'nuggets' of learning go a long long way in the world of grief.

It is essential that those who are already skilled have the funding they need to continue to support the children, families and adults who are hurting; and to continue educating the rest of us.  That is why today I am asking each of you to make a donation ~ even just a $5 donation will have an impact.  Really.

Just keep reading if you are interested in knowing how or just more about COJ.

And, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

All grief looks different. Find out from Dr. Dan Nelson and current COJ student participants why your support is critical ~ Click here to watch and listen

Last year, 49% of students who participated in COJ school-based support groups had experienced the death of a parent, and 58% had suffered the death of an immediate family member (parent or sibling).

In Ohio, it’s estimated that 1 in 11 children and teens will experience the death of a parent or sibling by their 18th birthday.

The Need is Great.  This is where YOU and I come in.

Through OUR generous support of Companions on a Journey, we can provide bereaved children, teens, and adults with a safe space to process feelings of grief and loss, connect with a caring community of peers, and strengthen critical wellness and resiliency skills. Our support allows COJ to help each person navigate their grief journey; discovering their new normal as they move forward.

Join me TODAY by donating in honor of Dillon, Graggie, Poppie & so many others who left us too soon.  Thank You for helping us give back to COJ - it means the world to us and so do you!
