This year we are raising funds to help Telica thrive!

It's our birthday! That means for 14 years Nuevas Esperanzas has been working with communities on the Telica Volcano, providing vital services that work against the poverty cycle, helping to improve lives in those communities. We have built schools, water systems, helped to establish honey bees and provided risk-free spaces for farmers to try out new crops.

But there is still more to be done. Many families still travel hours to collect water, vehicle access to the villages remains impossible in some areas and staple crops suffer from drought and acid rain. This year we want to go above and beyond to help these communities thrive.

This year we want you help to raise $19,000 to:

• Build a new rainwater harvesting tank - Helping to bring water year-round to a group of families who would otherwise have to travel for hours a day to collect water.
• Provide resources for crop diversification - The traditional crops of beans and are highly susceptible to drought and strong acid rain (one of the many vulnerabilities of living near a volcano). We want to help farmers transition to hardier fruits like pineapple and dragonfruit.
• Improve road access - After water, this is often identified as the second most import issue by the communities. Dirt roads get washed out during rainy winter months and complicate journeys to market and hospitals. Paving key sections of the road will make a huge difference.
• Establish another apiary - Honey has become a great way to generate extra income on Telica. We want to expand our current honey program and bring this knowledge to more people in the communities.

These four projects will do wonders to improve the wellbeing of those living on Telica.  Whatever you can give helps, together we can help Telica thrive in 2020!
