$1,008 goal

Update:
Unfortunately Helen passed away while undergoing her spay surgery.
The four remaining pigs have found permanent placement at PIGS Sanctuary in West Virginia, and will be transported there at the end of April. Thank you, PIGS Sanctuary! We've adjusted our total goal for this fundraiser to the cost of care for one month, not the originally anticipated 6 months, thank you all for your support!

Their story:

In January of 2016, 5 pigs were among 31 animals confiscated in Montgomery County, Maryland. It was the week before the big blizzard hit, and animal control had recieved complaints about the property. The owner was charged with 31 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, and he signed the animals over to Montgomery County Animal Control.

All of the sheep and goats found homes in the following months, but the pigs received little interest. Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation's Lost Dog Ranch is already home to four pigs who were rescued in the Iowa floods iof 2008, as well as horses, goats, pot bellied pigs and chickens who needed rescue. LDCRF stepped up, given that the Lost Dog Ranch has a good pig-proof set up, offered to take over placement of the four pigs.

About the Maryland Five:
Each pig has a unique personality, Pigamuss, the male, is protective of the females but friendly and goofy with people. Tressa (re-named Gloria), Valeria (re-named Lizzie) and Fiona (re-named Helen) all started out as shy and easily startled when you so much as touched them, but are coming out of their shell. Both Gloria and Lizzie are now confident, and even push the other pigs out of the way to greet people and see if they have snacks. Helen does allow people to pet her for short periods of time. Maybelline is outgoing and loves people, having quickly learned they often bring treats.

What will your support do:
The additional pigs will double the amount of food we go through, so money raised will go toward covering the additional cost of food and medical care these pigs will require in the coming months. Our goal is to raise enough to cover the cost of food for the next 6 months.

These pigs have been through a tough situation, but thankfully are on the path to a better life thanks to the collaboration of Montgomery County Animal Control, DaVinci Equine and Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation.

Any additional money raised will be used to cover the cost of adding additional shelter and providing the pigs with more produce and other yummy treats.
