Join us as we celebrate the culmination of a challenging, yet impactful year serving youth, families and adults in DC as we honor our program participants and the shift to virtual programs as a means to meet the needs of our constituents as we continue to serve, educate and nourish our communities. 

In response to the pandemic, HLI took a radical turn to provide engaging online programming for underserved school-aged children and middle-school aged youth, adults experiencing homelessness and senior citizens. It's been a nonstop summer, as we provided summer enrichment programs for six weeks, senior and adult shelter programs, all the while, educating and feeding hundreds of youth, adults and families. 

We are excited to celebrate alongside the public with a fun, live cooking demonstration from the talented, Cathal Armstrong, known for his award-winning restaurants such as the former Restaurant Eve and current DC favorite, Kaliwa. Chef Cathal's extensive experience as both an epicurean innovator and proponent of social justice and charity initiatives has brought his cuisine to notable platforms such as cooking for the Obamas, representing the US State Dept in Thailand, and securing numerous nominations for the the James Beard Award for Best Mid-Atlanic Chef.  On December 8th, Chef Cathal will be joining us to whip up a delicious, simple dish as well as providing a special recipe to attendees!

Special live performance from the incomparable, Edy Blu!

Many in the DC area know Edy Blu from her countless live performances and remarkable recordings, yet, in recent years, Edy Blu has taken her musical journey all over the map, from California to Australia!  This past September, Edy Blu was recognized by FADER magazine as a notable rising singer-songwriter. HLI youth will be on to join the fun, recite the HLI creed and speak from the heart as to how they've been integral in taking the HLI virtual experience to the next level!
