Helping You "Do Unto Others." Helping Chidren in Need.
It's snowing again in Chicago, and the streets are lit up and packed with holiday shoppers. It's the season for sharing, gift-giving, love... and in the spirit of the holiday, charity.
"Let all your things be done with charity." - Corinthians 16:14
"You shall strengthen the stranger and the dweller in your midst and live with him," {Leviticus XXV:35} that is to say, strengthen him until he needs no longer fall [upon the mercy of the community] or be in need.” - Maimonides’ Eight Levels of Giving, as written in the Mishneh Torah, Hilkhot Matanot Aniyim (Laws about Giving to Poor People), Chapter 10:7-14
"Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." - Matthew 22:39
Who are we?
We at Tutor/Mentor Connection (T/MC) have spent the past several years using maps to identify and analyze areas of our city where support for at-risk youth needs to grow, in order to make our students brighter, our workforce stronger, and our streets safer.
We operate on a non-profit budget and rely on donations and charity to continue our work, using state-of-the-art GIS technologies in support of our community-based mission.
What does this charity do?
In this day and age, maps can show a lot more than how to get from Point A to Point B. By mapping the geographic relationship between social issues and their critical solutions, we want to show where our community has opportunities for local leaders to make a difference in the lives of at-risk children, encouraging action and investment in our shared future, through our children.
We are raising money this holiday season to continue improving our map capacities in 2011, to build new support for students through tutor/mentor programs, and to forge new alliances among community leaders who want to help.
The maps we make were featured in a local art gallery this past November, and will be published to the Mapping For Justice blog throughout this month. Check mappingforjustice.blogspot.com daily for discussion of how we can join together, "Mapping Solutions."
And again, while you're here, please consider a small tax-deductible donation to this important charity.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!
