Hazelwood Prep officially launched last spring. We began outlining the curriculum for the first year and laying out our 5 year plan. There were so many details to sort out for our incorporation and registration for our 501c3 designation.

We're now about halfway through our first year and what we've been able to do on the micro scale has been glorious. We meet once a week with nine children in a rented space to cover U.S. History. In this little test lab environment we have learned a lot about creating custom curriculum (next year we're adding Ancient History), working with individual kids and their parents to find their passions and identify weakness that need to be shorn up, and we have felt keenly the need to move into a physical space in order to truly fulfil our mission: "Foster an inclusive educational community that inspires excellence."

What we need next is to secure funding for a building that will house Hazelwood Prep (a free-range homeschool academy). Our facility will provide space to the homeschool community to complete science lab requirements, conduct research in our library, teach classes, incubate micro-enterprises, and connect with the greater community. In the evenings our space would be open the community at large for tutoring assistance and classes for children in traditional schooling as well as adults.

I know that our vision will be a magnificent addition to Gwinnett County and that's why we're focused on building a stable, thriving organization.
