Jim Slack spent his chilhood and raised a family along the Fox River. He loved his oasis from the daily work-world, spending his free time on the water and outdoors, especially when a storm was brewing!. He instilled in his family that same love as he taught us of all the birds, frogs, fish, and critters we found in our own yard.
My Dad passed 3 years ago this December after a near 13 year battle with Aplastic Anemia (bone marrow failure). During this time he found comfort in the natural setting, building "The Treehouse" on wooded acreage. Here he and wife, Gayle, where able to spend time in his garden, look out to the birds, and watch over the wildlife that ventured close up to his final day.
The past 2 years I entered a race each fall as a time of personal reflection on my Dad. This year I will run to honor him and "Pay it Forward" for a charity that he would love and support himself.
