Keeping the HSAPC doors open past 2020
Hello HSAPC friends and family!
Sadly, our main funder will be closing their doors at the end of 2020. We are currently seeking other grants and funding opportunities to continue our operations. Without additional support, however, we will no longer be able to offer the services that many individuals in the Hopi & Tewa communities have come to rely on for healing and sobriety.
HOPI is...
Hongvi-Strength
Ӧqala- Inner Strength
Pöhtavi- Positive Pathway for Resolve
Itamungem- For All Mankind
The HOPI Substance Abuse Prevention Center (HSAPC), opened its doors in November 2003. Our services are open to anyone who wants help or information about substance use or abuse prevention. We serve Hopi and non-Hopi individuals residing on the Hopi reservation.
The HOPI Substance Abuse Prevention Center provides mentoring services to individuals of all ages and their families living on the Hopi reservation. Mentoring session can be held one-on-one or in a group setting.
Whether a person is an alcoholic, addict or is the family member of an alcoholic or addict, everyone is welcome to utilize our services. We work hard to insure same day services are provided. Services are offered on a walk-in basis or through scheduled appointments. Individuals seeking immediate help can call our office to receive phone support.
Mentoring emphasizes on the addiction process and its effects on self, mind, body, spirituality and family. Relapse prevention education is provided with support and encouragement to create healthy behaviors and healthy relationships.
Prevention education is provided by utilizing multi-media, books, worksheets, journaling, and traditional values/teachings to help an individual find their way to healing and recovery. Keeping the mind and body clean from mind altering substances is essential in creating a living process of Hopi traditions and customs, combined with modern western values and technology.
Prevention education is available on Hopi to the villages, programs and organizations, and schools through prevention presentations, or educational information booths. The HSAPC offers a variety of topics; and, presentations can be customized to fit specific needs.
HSAPC actively collaborates with various programs, agencies, and organizations in a combined effort to provide services to our clients. Family support is part of the requirement in prevention intervention for the community.
Examples of current collaborations include: the Hopi Tribal Courts & Detention Center, the Northern Arizona Regional Behavioral Health Authority (NARBHA), the Hopi/Tewa Women’s Coalition to End Abuse, the Hopi Alliance Against Substance Abuse, and Community Bridges, Inc.
