Update posted 5 years ago

Thank you all again! We are so encouraged by your support. We are $765 away from being able to purchase a high quality flatbed scanner that will allow us to digitize more materials for online accessibility. We have 2 days left! Please share if you care to do so.

Thank you again and again and again!

The Invisible Histories Project locates, collects, researches, and makes accessible the rich and diverse history of the LGBTQ US South. As of March 2020, we are actively collecting in Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia.

Due to COVID-19, the need for digital materials for research and community access is higher than ever. This year for Give OUT Day we are seeking $3500 to purchase a high resolution flatbed scanner, software, and a computer that will be able to edit, process, and store digital materials.

IHP has preserved over 60 new archival collections in two years in Alabama alone. We are on our way to the same results in Mississippi and Georgia over the next few years.

Having access to in-house digitization materials means we will be able to work more efficiently with scholars and students researching materials like magazines, zine, and newsletters. We will also be able to begin virtual exhibits that will allow the public better access to LGBTQ history even while social distancing.

Please consider donating. Every dollar given does directly to the preservation and community accessibility of Deep South LGBTQ history.

If you are unable to give, please consider liking us on social media and sharing with your friends.

Thank you for your continued support! Below are a few examples of the amazing things we have found so far.

90 year old lesbian minister, Marge Ragona, talks about teaching during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s in Atlanta, GA. The day this was recorded, Marge went to see her newly processed archival collection at the Birmingham Public Library. This collection is part of the Invisible Histories Project LGBTQ collections at BPL and is open for the public.
