As of 5:45pm on 11/28/2023 we have raised $6,150 in lifesaving funds for our shelter pets. Thank you to each and everyone of you who has helped us get closer and closer to our $10,000 goal!
We are so excited to announce that we have two new kennel sponsors. However, there are still 8 cat rooms and 30 dog kennels available for sponsorship!

Incorporated in 1886, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County is one of Indiana’s oldest & largest animal care organizations. Servicing the greater St. Joseph County region and multiple municipalities, we’ve seen over 2,980 animals so far this year. Providing a vast array of community services and educational programs, we truly look to embody our motto of “WE CARE” on many levels.

What Are We Raising Funds For
This #GivingTuesday we are raising funds to help cover the cost of lifesaving medical treatments & care for shelter pets. Injured, ill, and senior pets are amongst the most vulnerable animals in our shelter.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Each dollar earned will go towards our medical expenses & Silver Paws Fund. Below is a list of some common expenses that your donations will help pay for.
- Emergency Veterinary Care at EVCC or local veterinary clinic
- Blood work
- Urinalysis
- Heartworm Treatment
- Dental cleaning/teeth extractions
- Medication
- Prescription food
- Transportation assistance
Who You Are Helping
Most of our senior pets require additional medical care including bloodwork, specialty diets, and expensive dental work. Each dental starts at about $500 but can be upwards to $3,000 per animal if all of their teeth need to be extracted. These expenses add up quickly and can be overwhelming for our shelter. We find that most senior pets are surrendered to us because their owners cannot afford the medical care they need.
In some cases, owners are unable to financially provide medical care for their ill or injured animal, so the animal is surrendered to us in the hopes we can help. With your support, we’ve been able to save two dogs that were viciously stabbed and required over $15,000 in medical treatment, provided emergency care for several animals who had been hit by cars or were suffering from a medical emergency that required amputations or other surgical care, and treated nearly a dozen dogs for heartworm disease. Every week we are challenged with sick animals who require more than just basic medical care. Our veterinary expenses have exceeded $120,000 this year. Your donations will help us continue to provide positive outcomes for the most vulnerable pets in our care.

This year we are offering a special opportunity to those who donate $1,000+ during our #GivingTuesday campaign. For the entire 2024 year, we will display your name, your family’s name, or your company’s name on one of 33 dog kennels or one of the 8 community cat rooms in our adoption center. These spots are sure to go quickly, so don’t wait!
