Our campaign more specifically targets the most conservative areas of the state. Transformative methodology guides the relationship building that we are doing at the doors through deep canvassing. Together we are breaking down the barriers that divide us and keep us all struggling; we are deepening our relationships with people in the areas where we live and finding that far more unites us than divides us. By connecting people on their shared issues and values, we are building broad base people power for the kind of democracy that holds parties, elected officials and candidates accountable to people's priorities.
- We are cultivating leaders, investing in locally based community organizing.
- To date we have held 10,000 one-on-one conversations in communities across the state. We record their responses to the 24 issues and upload these so we can identify and mobilize people across the state on issues stretching healthcare to climate to economy and a host of social policies.
- We are creating community space for building relationships with the people we talk to and follow up with and connecting them to like-minded people in their own towns.
- From our contacts we are cultivating leaders, investing in locally based community organizing efforts.
- We are making sure the needs of Idahoans are reflected in the development of national policies that we craft and advance with our national and regional partners; big, bold national policies including rural reinvestment, the green new deal, comprehensive immigration reform, budget and policy priorities. Locally, we are working to implement city ordinances denouncing White Nationalism and white supremacy requiring municipalities to provide training to city officials and staff.
- Through this process we are working with key national partners to build an Idaho model that can be replicated in other rural parts of the country for how to organize in the most conservative places. This work in predominantly white states is proving to be a powerful counter to the rise of White Nationalist groups and activity.
- Research from our team at People's Action shows that this model is moving 8 out of every 10 people engaged into a different social and political analysis and alignment. This was evidenced in our work in the movement of people in Southwestern, Central and Eastern Idaho during the last election.
- We are building models for how to organize in the places across this country that have been too long abandoned; and centering Idaho in powerful national spaces to create a new kind of national movement that unites rural, suburban and urban communities in our shared struggle for justice.
