We did it! Fathers Day 5k in the books!

Update posted 6 years ago

I am happy to report my son and I completed the Father's Day 5k Race this morning! We had a great run even though it was pretty hot by race time. We both wore our Snoopy Vulture T-shirts. My son came in at 39:39 and I was there behind him at 39:41. Many thanks to all who donated to our mighty cause! We finished the 5k and met our goal of $100 to donate to the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center!

This Fathers Day I will be running my 3rd Fathers Day’s 5k in Easton, Massachusetts. But this 5k is going to be a little different for me. This year, my son is going to put on his running sneakers and join me in the challenge! And the fact that it is on Fathers Day makes it that more special. He is a good kid and we share a lot of similar interests.

Last year, when I started training for the 5k I began telling folks that I was putting on my “Snoopy Vulture Eyes” and getting focused. For those unfamiliar, “Snoopy Vulture Eyes” refers to the way Snoopy from the Peanuts comic strips would climb into a tree lean his body over and stare down victims with his vulture eyes. I have always laughed so hard when I would find a Peanuts comic strip with Snoopy getting into serious vulture mode. And when I showed a strip like this to my son for the first time he also let out a big belly laugh and would try to make those serious vulture eyes too. And last year I wore a T-shirt with that image of Snoopy at the 5k.

In the last couple years I have found myself rediscovering my enjoyment of the characters Charles M. Schulz created and learning more about the artist himself through books, articles, animated features and even a PBS special. The Peanuts strips are an important part of American comic strip history and history in general. President Barack Obama even took time to write the introduction of the final volume of The Complete Peanuts series which I think shows its historical significance. The mission of the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, CA is to preserve, display, and interpret the art of Charles M. Schulz.  I think that is important. And that is why this year, for the first time, I am going to be running this Fathers Day 5k for the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center.
The goal is to reach $100. Donate only if you can and there is no pressure here! I look forward to posting pics of the race this Fathers Day!
