Update posted 1 year ago

Every child needs the skills to feel safe and confident around water, especially in our lakefront community. Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14. In our community, our children are more than a statistic, and we must do better. The Y’s size and reach as a vital community asset uniquely positions the organization to bridge the gap in the delivery of swim lessons and water safety education.  Our goal is to remove any financial barriers so that every child in our community can learn these life-saving skills. The La Porte County Family YMCA has partnered with local schools to provide free swim lessons to fourth grade students, starting with Lincoln Elementary in La Porte. In addition, each student receives a swimsuit, towel, swim cap, goggles, cinch bag, and a free YMCA membership. We want to remove any barriers that would keep a child from learning how to swim.  Our hope is to expand this program County wide, but we need your help! Swim lessons and water safety aren’t a luxury, they’re a necessity. Our goal for our Day of Giving is to raise $7,500.00. Together, we can bridge the gap, and keep our children safe. Swim lessons and water safety aren’t a luxury, they’re a necessity.
