With your gift, you support people harmed by the cruelty of immigration detention.

$10,796

raised by 113 people

$20,000 goal

NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 situation, with so many people testing positive, we had to postpone this event. We will reschedule when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, please support people detained at SDC and their loved ones with a gift to El Refugio. Thank you!

This fundraiser will benefit those directly harmed by immigration detention in Georgia and is aligned with #ChingaLaMigra, my installation at the Atlanta Contemporary’s Sliver Space.

#ChingaLaMigra holds 1,966 hand-cut, water colored Monarch butterflies and invites the viewer to hear audio of the voices of people who have been harmed by Georgia’s Stewart Detention Center (SDC)—one of the largest and deadliest immigration detention centers in the country. It is operated by private prison company CoreCivic in contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and has the capacity to cage 1,966 human beings.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 for El Refugio, a nonprofit working directly with people detained at SDC and their loved ones. Your donation will be used to put money on commissary accounts and send books to people at SDC, purchase plane and bus tickets for people being released from SDC, support families impacted by detention with money for rent, utilities, and food, and advocate for the release of all people from SDC, the closure of SDC, and the abolishment of immigration detention.

While I hope the Atlanta community can help us reach our fundraising goal in the coming weeks, there will be a final opportunity to contribute in person from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 8ARM at a collaborative event that will be an opportunity for Atlanta to learn and contribute in a space of solidarity, food, drinks, music, art, film, and storytelling.

I am confident that Atlanta will come together to be in solidarity with this community that is enduring what I consider the most violent component of this country's dehumanizing immigration enforcement machine.

In Solidarity,
