COVID-19 has left many families devastated by a shortage of job opportunities, childcare, and affordable housing. As Mary House provides housing and support to low-income refugee and immigrant families, our families have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Approximately 90% of our families lost their jobs in March 2020, and many are still struggling to find and maintain consistent full time employment. As a result, a large majority of Mary House families have relied entirely on us for food, shelter, and educational support throughout the pandemic.

While the scope and scale of the pandemic have changed dramatically over the last 18 months, the immense financial hardship has remained constant many Mary House families. Mary House has responded by waiving or lowering the rent for families in our Transitional Housing Program. Aside from our efforts to help families through rent forgiveness, we have also provided weekly non-perishable and produce deliveries, essential items such as masks, hand sanitizer, and other household goods, and increased academic support throughout the past year.

As the economic repercussions of COVID-19 continue to impact Mary House families, it is our goal to mitigate the suffering of these families who are being hit the hardest by this pandemic by continuing to offer rent forgiveness and additional support services. However, losing the major revenue stream that rent provides has affected our ability to fund our operating costs. With your financial help, we can replace this lost funding and continue to provide an increased level of care through our programming as we navigate the ongoing implications of COVID-19.

Mary House does not receive federal monies or local government funding, including DHS, and is currently the only nonprofit housing provider that provides multigenerational housing to immigrant and refugee families.
