Jacee Clemons
Transplant Type: Kidney
Update: Jacee received a transplant on May 11, 2020!
Jacee Clemons is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2011, she was diagnosed with Lupus SLE Stage-3. It was very aggressive and attacked her lungs and kidneys. Jacee was in her twenties at the time, and her diagnosis came as a shock. Over the next several years, she underwent multiple treatments and surgeries that have had a negative impact on her body and overall health. The heavy doses of steroids she has taken to help with her condition have taken a toll on her joints, and she’s undergone two hip surgeries, a total hip replacement, and is facing another surgery. Additionally, Jacee was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and stage-1 Thyroid Cancer. Since her initial lupus diagnosis, her kidney function has declined and now Jacee faces stage-5 Lupus Nephritis. Her illness affects her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Jacee is thankful for the love and support of her husband, Sean, and their family and friends. Jacee has two children, Gabby, age 11, and Eli, age 8. Her illness prevents her from being the active wife and mother she longs to be, but her family is very supportive and understanding. She looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give her back her energy and allow her to have a more normal life. Jacee enjoys dinner and movies with friends, attending church with her family, and playing board games with her husband and children. She wants nothing more than to feel better so she can focus on her family—not her own health—and continue to enjoy life with Sean, Gabby, and Eli. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $442,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Jacee still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Jacee lives 115 miles away from her transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging.
