For the past few years we have entertained the idea of welcoming a service dog into our family, and at last it is time for our journey begin. After researching many organizations that help place service dogs we knew 4 Paws For Ability was the best fit for meeting our needs.

Our ten year old son Jacob diagnosed with autism at the age of two.  Over the past few years Jacob has also been given a diagnosis ADHD, anxiety,  communication disorder,  and intellectual disability.  Jacob has such a unique personality,  as many on the spectrum do, but his combination of diagnoses make social situation extremely difficult for him.  The service dog that Jacob will receive will be trained to prevent wandering, tethering, and will help to calm him during meltdowns. Jacob talks often about getting to meet his "fur-ever" friend.

The Hall's service dog will be working double duty,  as Jacob's eight year old sister Margaret (Maggie) also carries a diagnosis of autism. Like Jacob, Maggie has a combination of diagnoses including ADHD, anxiety, communication disorder and intellectual disability.  Maggie tends to become over stimulated easily, leading to frequent meltdowns and wandering. Not only will a service dog help Maggie keep calm during stressful situations,  but it will also help keep her safe and be able to track if the situation ever presented itself.  Maggie loves any and all kinds of animals, and is eager to welcome a service dog to the family.

Jacob and Maggie love attending any and all University of Kentucky sporting events, even though we recently moved to Alabama.  In addition to participating in Arts n' Autism,  they enjoy being a part of the Miracle League, Let's All Dance, and will be participating in the first Special Olympics event this spring. This will be one busy service dog!

Jake and Maggie have decided to make their dog Gyllen Hall.
